(Des) Illusions by Clara olde Heuvel

(Des) Illusions - by Clara olde Heuvel ©

I can see them
clearer now

Through the years

On the surface all seems well

Deeper down
I can feel the hole and
the shallowness of the uppermost layer

All an illusion
Again and again

Blindsided by the brightness,
the brilliants, the glitter and gold

The smiles seem triggering
whereas behind those lie
pain, hatred, suffering and heartache

The jokes, the fun, the laughter
All used to cover up own mistakes,
own faults, own misdemeanours

Shortly lived

The pain and hatred
dwells on

Now into a different direction
