THERESA'S TRIP TO THE DENTIST

Tomorrow we are going into lock down again.  But it is today I am more worried about,  WHY?  Theresa our youngest daughter  that lives in supported living has a dental appointment.  She will be seeing her dentist but instead of it being in Aylesbury it is now in Amersham.  Because Theresa lives in supported living  which is managed by Mencap and due to Covid 19 I am not allowed to take her.  One of the staff will have to do that.  The house where Theresa lives has no staff 24/7.  Firstly Theresa would not be able to go in our car as I am not able to drive at the moment, David could drive but we would not be able to social distance with the three of us.

Arrangements are made for staff to take her and when I spoke to the Receptionist  Theresa was booked in for a crown and a filling.  Having a crown myself I know that there is a lot of drilling involved.  For Dental and Hospital Appointments her Dad and I have always taken her.  Not this time.  Due to Covid 19 you stay in your car until the Dental Nurse comes to collect you.  Theresa has all the information in her phone.

On the positive side this is another step for Theresa and her independence.  At her recent review it was felt that Theresa was ready to move to a flat on her own  with some support.  At 12 mid-day I called to see if she was home, which she was.  No Crown.  A chip on one of the back teeth repaired and a chip on her front tooth filled, and a cap put over her tooth to protect it.  Maybe a crown in the future. It depends on Covid.  We shall see.!!  Part of me is very pleased that Theresa was fine without me,  and another part says I should have been their to ask all the questions that are unanswered regarding future treatments.

I am sure that many parents have had similar experiences with their children who are in supported living or care homes.  Everyone is adapting to give their clients the best of care.  I am very grateful for the Staff member who did take care of our daughter.
