ISOLATING TOGETHER

Savitri Pema

You’ll miss me when I’m gone, she said,
sweeping leaves from slippery steps, gnarled
hands yanking weeds from concrete slabs,
Muttering

You’ll miss me when I’m gone,he said,
Ironing stripy tea-towels, burning the
delicate lace on her favourite blouse.
Groaning.

You’ll miss me when I’m gone,she said,
boiling water to mash their tea, sneezing and
smiling through chattering teeth.
Forgivingly.

You’ll miss me when I’m gone, he said
munching ginger nuts and custard creams,
lacing her cuppa with honey and brandy.
Lovingly

Families have been confined in their homes for long periods of time during lockdown. Without the respite of social and leisure activities, there are understandably stresses on  relationships.

“Isolating Together” is about striving to cope, with love and humour.
